About this specimen
Brazilian amethyst at 4.5 cm and 83 g; a miniature with a sawn base, priced with the tip disclosed. A cluster of deep purple amethyst points with glassy faces over a grey matrix; the supplier notes a slightly damaged tip and a base cut flat.
Amethyst is iron-coloured quartz; the purple is usually strongest at the terminations and fades toward the base.
Brazil's Minas Gerais pegmatites are the world's leading source of quartz, tourmaline and beryl crystals.
