關於此標本
寶藍色的藍銅礦以緊密而閃亮的晶簇覆滿這件銅礦標本的正面，薄荷綠至祖母綠的孔雀石則以柔軟的纖維狀墊團自其間頂出。兩者變薄之處，鏽橙色的鐵帽透出底色，後緣則保留著一層粗糙的風化皮殼。
藍銅礦 Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2 與孔雀石 Cu2(CO3)(OH)2 是銅碳酸鹽家族中的近親。孔雀石是兩者中較穩定的一方，留在潮濕地層裡的藍銅礦會緩慢轉變為它；像這樣藍與綠在每一尺度上交錯的表面，正是這場轉變被捕捉在中途的樣子。兩種礦物都偏軟，莫氏硬度約 3.5 至 4，也都以避開直射陽光最能保色。
