槍鐵色而油亮，方正得像機械零件：這件中國小標本上的車輪礦晶體是塊狀而非板狀的。最大的一枚以一個寬闊的平坦晶面為標本封頂，其稜邊裂成細密的平行階梯——正是這個礦種聞名的車輪狀刻痕。在其下方與右側，更明亮的晶體從一塊散布著黃銅色硫化物斑點的白色母岩上叢生而出。
車輪礦是 PbCuSbS3，一種鉛銅銻硫化物，而它在同一晶面上一再雙晶的習性，正是那些車輪狀輪廓的成因；稜邊上的每一道刻痕，都是這一疊之中的一片雙晶薄層。莫氏硬度 2.5 至 3，此礦偏軟且容易碰傷，頻繁把玩會在光澤上留下一層晦暗的薄膜，所以請托著母岩拿取。
一件拇指大小的標本，4.3 × 3.0 × 3.0 cm、85 g——就其尺寸而言明顯偏重，鉛礦物皆是如此。不附展示架。這就是照片中的那一組晶體，連最後一道刻痕都分毫不差。
