一枚清透如水的石英晶錐如刀刃般自近乎全黑的錫石岩體中升起，對比本身便完成了一切：上方是玻璃般的通透，下方是緻密的半金屬暗色。錫石通體縱向深刻條紋，在寬闊的解理面上以細密的平行線條攫取光線，左側另有一團灰黑色礦體斜插而入。兩種礦物交會之處，還探出幾枚較小的石英晶尖。
錫石是氧化錫 SnO2，這件標本上手時之所以感覺不對勁，原因在於它的比重約為 7——單手就能握住的一件標本，卻壓進了 510 g。湖南瑤崗仙以螢石聞名，但它本質上是一處鎢錫礦床，而礦石礦物擔綱主角、而非陪襯的標本，正是錫礦收藏者追逐的目標。
