三小塊透視石晶殼，各自長在自己那一小片褐黃色的鐵染岩石上，每一塊都是藍綠色菱面體肩並肩擠成的一叢。晶面通透如玻璃，足以打出強烈的白色高光，而那種冷冽飽和的綠，只有銅才做得出來——與孔雀石、藍銅礦背後是同一種元素，只是被推向更接近寶石的地步。三者之中最大的一塊，有一道未曾間斷的晶體帶橫跨整整一公分的母岩。
透視石是一種含水的銅矽酸鹽，化學式為 CuSiO3·H2O，屬三方晶系，這裡短粗、帶完整端面的柱狀晶體正是它的典型晶習——它與立方形態毫無關係。莫氏硬度 5 聽來還算耐受，但這種礦物解理良好且性脆，因此軟毛刷是它唯一該接受的清潔方式——不可超音波，不可用酸。
標示的尺寸 2.5 × 2.3 × 1.5 cm 指的是最大的那一塊；三塊合計重 35 g。它們固定在所附的白色泡棉塊上，拍攝時墊高於一塊透明壓克力方塊之上；圖中這三塊晶殼，就是隨貨寄出的那三塊。
