關於此標本
這裡的螢石幾乎交出了全部顏色。清澈如水的階梯狀立方體沿標本左側拾級而上，透明到背後的晶殼能直接穿過晶面顯現出來；只有在最厚的角落，才浮起一絲極淡的綠意。其餘部分是一層淡綠白色的砂糖質晶殼，顆粒感強而無光，把玻璃般的立方體襯托得格外分明。
湖南香花嶺以鮮綠與紫羅蘭色更為人所知，因此同一片礦體所出的近無色一組，反而低調地不尋常。螢石是 CaF2，等軸晶系，摩氏硬度 4，沿八面體方向具完全解理——拿取這樣的標本時請托住母岩，而非捏著立方體的角，並讓它遠離硬碰撞與驟然受熱。
