紫到這種程度，就不再像顏色，而像陰影。擁擠在這塊中國母岩板上的立方體幾乎讀作黑色，直到光線從側面照來，稜角才燃起紫羅蘭色，較小的晶體也解析出清澈的紫水晶色調。多數是稜角削平的直白立方體，在整個正面面對面地緊密排列，縫隙間填著較早期母岩的淡奶油色結殼。
如此深的顏色來自螢石晶格中的缺陷，而非任何色素，這正是為什麼濃紫色的螢石常在晶體較薄之處或新斷口處轉淡。CaF2 的莫氏硬度為 4，並具四個方向的完全解理：撞到稜角時往往不是崩缺，而是彈落一小片三角形的薄片。
