Über diese Stufe
Himmelblauer Hemimorphit krönt das obere Drittel dieses Keils aus Yunnan und bricht genau dort ab, wo das dunkle Gestein beginnt. Die Kruste darunter ist traubig und satt blau; darüber sitzen Dutzende strahliger Fächer, jeder ein Büschel feiner Nadeln, das von Blau an der Wurzel bis nahezu Weiß an den Spitzen aufhellt. Unterhalb der Farbgrenze läuft die Matrix als brauner bis schwarzer Keil aus, eisenverfärbt und rau.
Hemimorphit ist ein Zinksilikat, Zn4Si2O7(OH)2·H2O, das sich in den oxidierten oberen Bereichen von Zinklagerstätten bildet – genau deshalb kommt es auf verwittertem, eisenreichem Gestein wie diesem daher, und Spuren von Kupfer aus derselben Zone geben ihm den blauen Ton. Bei Mohs 4,5–5 sind die Nadelfächer der empfindliche Teil: niemals abbürsten, das Stück niemals wässern und immer am Matrixkeil anfassen.
