Fuegos artificiales de acero: cientos de láminas metálicas de estibina brotan de este ejemplar de Hunan en ramilletes radiales —unas finas como agujas, otras anchas como hojas de espada, con las estrías longitudinales características de la especie— y convergen en abanicos que se despliegan hacia arriba desde una base gris de calcedonia botrioidal. Con más de 20 cm de anchura y 1,36 kg, es una auténtica pieza de vitrina.
Hunan marcó el estándar moderno de la estibina, y los grandes abanicos sobre matriz —frente a los cúmulos de láminas sueltas— son la configuración más difícil de conseguir, sobre todo con las terminaciones intactas. El sotobosque burbujeante de calcedonia es un atractivo en sí mismo, un suave paisaje gris del que emerge el metal.
La estibina (Sb2S3) es blanda y sus láminas son delicadas; esta pieza se fija con seguridad en el soporte metálico a medida y la base de acrílico que se muestran, y debe manipularse únicamente por la base. Mide 20,3 × 7,6 × 15,2 cm. Todas las fotografías muestran el ejemplar exacto.
