Xuebaoding, Sichuan, mica with aquamarine at 8.3 cm and 120 g; a cabinet piece. A cluster of pale, pearly mica rosettes fanning in every direction with a small aquamarine crystal the supplier lists.
Aquamarine is the blue-green variety of beryl, forming hexagonal prisms with flat terminations; the Chinese material from Xuebaoding and Yunnan pairs it with muscovite and cassiterite.
Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
By size it is cabinet, 8.3 × 4.6 × 4.6 cm (3.27 × 1.81 × 1.81 in) and 120 g (4.2 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
