Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine with mica at 6.4 cm and 85 g; a small cabinet piece. A flat, glassy pale green aquamarine crystal with a golden-brown mica rim along its top edge, the beryl translucent.
Aquamarine is the blue-green variety of beryl, forming hexagonal prisms with flat terminations; the Chinese material from Xuebaoding and Yunnan pairs it with muscovite and cassiterite.
Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 6.4 × 2.4 × 4.5 cm (2.52 × 0.94 × 1.77 in) and 85 g (3.0 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
