A cluster of transparent calcite rhombs surrounds a core of calcite coated in a bright rust-red skin, so the red glows through the clear outer crystals at the centre of the piece. Please note the clear calcite is a second generation.
Red-skin calcite from Fujian with a clear overgrowth; the layered look is the point, and it displays best with light coming from the side.
It measures 6.5 × 4.2 × 2.2 cm (2.56 × 1.65 × 0.87 in) and weighs 57 g (2 oz), a small cabinet-sized piece that displays well on a shelf or in a cabinet. Sold as photographed, with any known repair, mount, treatment or condition note disclosed in this listing; colour is as true to hand as the photos allow.
