關於此標本
整個展示面已凝結成一片浪湧：圓潤的異極礦軟墊在晶板上鼓起、相互交疊，通體覆著一層磨砂而糖霜般細緻的晶簇，只散射光線，而不讓它穿透。顏色自上緣的粉筆白轉入淡天藍，再於凹處沉為靜謐的松石綠。唯有最外緣露出深灰綠色的母岩，像一道細線為這片藍鑲邊。
異極礦是一種含水的鋅矽酸鹽，化學式為 Zn4Si2O7(OH)2·H2O，形成於鋅礦床氧化帶的上部；雲南材料的藍色調，一般認為源自隨鋅一同帶入的微量銅。莫氏硬度 4.5 至 5，這層結殼算得上結實，但葡萄狀的表面極易積塵，細緻的晶簇一經摩擦便會失去光澤——請把灰塵吹掉，而不要擦拭。
晶板幅面 8.9 × 3.0 × 8.9 cm，重 221 g，背面平整，厚度淺薄，適合置於畫架式支架或收納抽屜。圖中所示即為出售的那一件；這類晶板沒有兩塊會重複。
