這件拇指標本的中央有兩片刃狀晶體以接近直角交叉：一片垂直向上，末端參差劈裂；另一片橫向伸出，像一根低垂的枝條。晶面呈銀灰色，泛著淡淡的藍與古銅色暈彩，右側則有乳白色的重晶石結殼緊緊堆疊上來。
重晶石 BaSO4 在湖南的銻礦脈中是輝銻礦的固定夥伴。它結晶較早，硫化物隨後穿其而生、覆其而長，所以這裡的結殼是包裹著刃狀晶體，而非墊在它們下方。本件的輝銻礦呈板條狀而非細針狀，這種形態特別能展現它完美的側向解理——而莫氏硬度僅 2，指尖一按就會在鏡面般的晶面上留下痕跡，因此拿取時請只碰母岩。
標本小巧，4.6 × 2.0 × 1.3 cm，重 10 g，以白色黏土固定在此處所見的透明壓克力方座上。從頂端的劈裂處到每一個細節，這些照片拍的都是這一件標本。
