關於此標本
雪白的結殼、深灰色的寄主岩，以及散布在上方三分之二處的黃銅色黃鐵礦——這塊銅綠山標本板完全依靠對比運作。黃鐵礦晶體各自獨立而呈塊狀，每顆僅數毫米，坐在方解石覆層之上而非穿透其中，而它們橄欖金色的鏽化，使它們顯得樸實而非鏡面般耀眼。右中方一小簇片狀的白色方解石打斷了結殼，而未經覆蓋的深色岩石則沿右緣裸露出來。
湖北大冶的銅綠山是一處銅鐵矽卡岩礦床，黃鐵礦散落於晚期方解石毯上，正是它具代表性的面貌之一。黃鐵礦的化學式為 FeS2，莫氏硬度 6 至 6.5，而周圍的方解石僅有莫氏硬度 3，因此結殼才是脆弱的部分；請保持標本板乾燥，因為潮濕的存放環境正是硫化物最終崩解的原因。
標本板尺寸為 8.9 × 1.8 × 5.6 cm，重 79 g，薄到足以平放於抽屜之中，此處以手持拍攝而未使用底座。這些照片中的標本，就是將為您包裝的那一件。
