這件秘魯晶簇上有半數黃鐵礦晶面已暗轉為槍鐵色，其餘仍燃著黃銅般的光亮，正是這種分裂讓它在房間另一端仍抓得住目光。晶體屬五角十二面體——五邊形晶面以平緩的角度相接，最大者接近 1.5 cm——彼此楔得極緊，只留下狹窄的縫隙供石英發揮。
黃鐵礦是二硫化鐵，FeS2，而秘魯的多金屬礦脈正是這般稜角分明晶體的經典產地；五角十二面體也比日常可見的黃鐵礦立方體更為少見。莫氏硬度 6 至 6.5 聽來耐用，但黃鐵礦性脆，受撞時稜角會崩缺。頂面上的暗色鏽華只是薄薄一層表面氧化，若標本保存在潮濕處便會擴散——請放在乾燥的層架上，切勿使用超音波清洗。
晶簇尺寸 6.0 × 5.0 × 4.0 cm，重 200 g，是單手好握的份量，照片中以指間持握呈現比例。不附底座。上方每一張照片拍的都是這同一件晶簇。
