這件瑤崗仙結核的空腔中塞滿了清澈如水的石英，尖端銳利的柱狀晶體自淡灰色的洞緣朝各個方向挺出。靠近前方，數枚塊狀的黃鐵礦晶體楔在晶尖之間：新鮮晶面迎光之處呈明亮的銀灰色，表面鏽蝕之處則近乎黑色，其密度足以為整個洞口提供一個金屬般的錨點。
黃鐵礦（FeS2）是這裡兩種礦物中較硬的一種，莫氏硬度 6 至 6.5，但它也是會隨時間改變的那一種，因為硫化物在潮濕空氣中會緩慢氧化——這正是已經讓這些晶面從黃銅色轉向槍鐵色的原因。保持乾燥並避免陽光直射，此件便能維持目前的樣貌。莫氏硬度 7 的石英則完全無需照料。
高與寬相當，7.6 × 5.8 × 7.6 cm，300 g，它以自身圓潤的底面安坐，洞口朝觀看者傾斜，無需展示架。相機看見的是這一個晶洞，別無其他。
