About this specimen
Hunan pyrite at 4.3 cm and 70 g; a miniature. Keep dry. Two sharp brassy pyrite cubes standing on a base of granular pyrite, the multi-crystal growth the supplier notes.
Iron sulfide with a brass-gold colour, pyrite is heavy, bright and geometrically satisfying, with striated faces on the best crystals.
Hunan is the heartland of Chinese mineral collecting, home to Yaogangxian, Xianghualing and Shangbao, and its fluorite, calcite and sulfides are the benchmark for the country.
The piece is miniature in size, 4.3 × 3.1 × 3.7 cm (1.69 × 1.22 × 1.46 in) and 70 g (2.5 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
