關於此標本
兩顆丁香紫的尖晶自一塊低矮的灰綠色岩板升起，第三顆晶體則在旁向後倚著岩石。三顆的底部都近乎無色，愈往尖端愈聚起紫意；它們的晶面明亮、錐面銳利，腳邊擠著較小的晶體，寄主岩則沿下緣斷成一條深色的細粒帶。
維拉克魯茲的紫水晶生在蝕變火山岩的孔洞裡，因此晶體纖細、常能獨立站立，也比多數人一聽這名字就想到的巴西晶洞材料淡得多。顏色來自二氧化矽晶格（SiO2）中的微量鐵，經天然輻照改變而成；同樣的機制也意味著長時間曝曬會使它褪色——請讓這樣的標本遠離明亮的窗口。
岩板為 7.4 × 5.6 × 3.6 cm，重 79 g，不附底座出售。它送到時的模樣會與此處完全一樣，連尖晶與母岩都一樣。
