Über diese Stufe
Hemimorphit in einem hellen Vogelei-Blau wächst hier als kurze, korallenartige Äste, jeder zu einer stumpfen, leicht grüneren Spitze hin verdickt, aufsteigend aus einem weißen Rasen feiner Nadelkristalle, der die Oberseite einer braunen, eisenverfärbten Platte überzieht. Auf Armlänge liest sich das Blau als eine einzige Farbfläche; aus der Nähe löst es sich in einzelne, verzweigte Stängel auf.
Hemimorphit ist ein wasserhaltiges Zinksilikat, Zn4Si2O7(OH)2·H2O, gebildet im oxidierten Hut über Zinkerz, wo zirkulierendes Wasser Sphalerit umsetzt. Farblos und Weiß sind die gewöhnlichen Ergebnisse; der blaue Ton chinesischen Materials wie diesem wird im Allgemeinen Spuren von Kupfer zugeschrieben. Mohs 4,5 bis 5 macht ihn robuster, als er aussieht, doch die schlanken Nadeln brechen leicht und dürfen niemals abgebürstet werden.
Das Stück misst 4,6 × 4,1 × 2,5 cm und wiegt 45 g, gezeigt auf einem klaren Acrylblock und auf ein Polster aus grüner Klebemasse gebettet. Was auf den Bildern zu sehen ist, geht so auch in den Versand.
