Included quartz specimens contain mineral inclusions trapped within transparent quartz during crystal growth, creating natural time capsules that preserve geological moments from millions of years ago. Our collection features quartz crystals with dramatic internal features including rutile needles, tourmaline rods, chlorite phantoms, and other mineral inclusions.
These inclusions formed when the growing quartz crystal encountered and encapsulated foreign mineral particles in its path. Rutilated quartz contains golden titanium dioxide needles that crisscross through the crystal like frozen beams of light. Tourmalinated quartz shows black tourmaline rods cutting through transparent quartz. Phantom quartz reveals earlier growth stages as ghost-like outlines preserved within the crystal — each phantom recording a pause and restart in crystal growth.
Brazil is the world’s premier source of included quartz varieties, particularly from Minas Gerais and Bahia, though Chinese and Madagascan deposits also produce exceptional material. With standard quartz hardness of Mohs 7, included quartz is durable and easy to display. The best specimens are those with high clarity in the host quartz, allowing inclusions to be seen clearly.
