橄欖金色的晶片在此反覆交錯，像倉促搭起的格柵：板狀的重晶石晶體，每一片都是扁平的金色薄板，邊緣泛著亮光，以各種角度層層堆疊，最終整叢讀作一整塊互相咬合的結構。穿行其間的是色澤更淡、近乎無色而帶暖調紅暈的晶片，寬闊的晶面迎光閃動，金色的那些則像自內部發亮。
重晶石是 BaSO4——斜方晶系，摩氏硬度僅 3 至 3.5，以其體積而言重得出人意料。第一次拿起時，重量就是最明顯的線索：一叢寬不過 6.6 cm 的晶簇，卻有 145 g。它的軟也值得敬重，薄薄的晶片邊緣，比那層玻璃般的光澤看起來更容易崩缺。
