關於此標本
橄欖綠與苔蘚綠在這顆小葡萄石球的表面上互相爭奪，較深的綠色被淺奶色的脈紋打斷，那些脈紋繞著球身盤旋勾連。表面是霧面而細粒的質感，而非玻璃光澤，其中一側肩部帶著一處顏色更深的黃綠色晶體凹窩，略低於周圍的表皮。
葡萄石是一種鈣鋁矽酸鹽，幾乎從不長成獨立的單晶。它多以葡萄狀的結殼與緊密的放射狀集合體堆築，這正是它常以這種圓潤、恰可盈握的形狀出現的原因。莫氏硬度 6 至 6.5，結實到可以隨意拿取，而略帶蠟質的光澤會柔和地承接光線，不會把光反射回去。
這顆球直徑 3.3 cm，重 50 g。拍攝時以白色黏土撐在透明壓克力底座上，上方各張照片拍的都是這一顆球。
