關於此標本
這裡的紅比較像漆，而不像顏料：密佈的釩鉛礦六方晶體，每顆僅一兩毫米，在這件摩洛哥標本的表面把光線收成一個個明亮的硬點。顏色隨著位置而變——晶體薄而透光處是橙琥珀色，堆疊到兩三層深的地方則是濃烈的血紅。右上方幾顆較大的桶狀晶體，色調比其餘部分更深。
底下是一層乳白色的板狀重晶石，這組對比正是整件標本成立的關鍵：溫暖的淺色葉片托著冷豔明亮的紅色晶體。釩鉛礦是一種鉛的釩酸鹽，化學式為 Pb5(VO4)3Cl，顏色來自其中的釩。硬度僅莫氏 2.5–3，晶尖極易折斷，請忍住用手指撫過表面的衝動。
尺寸為 8.4 × 5.1 × 4.1 cm，重 205 g。未附底座；標本仍坐落在它生長時所依附的褐色母岩上。頁面圖片僅屬於這一件標本。
