Jinkouhe, Sichuan, baryte at 10.1 cm and 328 g; a cabinet piece. A cluster of large, clear tabular baryte blades stacked at angles, the faces glassy with fine growth lines.
Baryte (barite) is barium sulfate: heavy for its size, soft, and prone to tabular or bladed crystals with a bright vitreous lustre.
Sichuan hosts Xuebaoding, Jinkouhe and Leshan, sources of aquamarine, scheelite, prehnite, gypsum and the epidote-quartz skarn specimens seen here.
