About this specimen

Hubei chalcopyrite at 13.2 cm; a large cabinet piece. Copper mineral: avoid dust and wash hands after handling. A heavy chalcopyrite mass whose tarnished surface runs through bronze, violet and green as the light moves across it, the colour sitting in a thin film over the metal beneath.

Chalcopyrite has a deeper gold colour and softer lustre than pyrite and often tarnishes to peacock hues.

Hubei's Daye copper-iron mines are famous for calcite, and the province also produces fluorite and quartz from its mountain districts.

The piece is large cabinet in size, 13.2 × 7.8 × 4 cm (5.20 × 3.07 × 1.57 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Every specimen here is photographed and catalogued individually before listing.
