About this specimen
Orange spessartine garnets stand out across a pale matrix with mica, quartz, feldspar and hyalite opal recorded in the association. Larger orange crystals project near the upper and lower edges, while smaller ones scatter between the pale forms. A supplied ultraviolet photograph shows bright green-blue areas within the same group. The ordinary-light view reveals the garnets' rounded angular outlines and the varied pale texture between their concentrated warm-colored faces. Dimensions: 3.3 × 2 × 3.6 cm / 33 × 20 × 36 mm / 1.30 × 0.79 × 1.42 inch. Estimated weight: 24 g / 0.85 oz, calculated from its dimensions.
