About Anqing Cu Mine
The Anqing Copper Mine in Anqing, Anhui Province, is one of the major Cu-Au-Mo skarn deposits along the Lower Yangtze River metallogenic belt. Active since the 1980s, the mine produces copper concentrate plus collector-grade specimens of chalcopyrite, garnet (andradite), and skarn-suite minerals. Anqing complements the Tongling district as a second major Anhui locality.
Geology & Signature Specimens
Mineralization is hosted in skarn contact zones between Late Yanshanian (Cretaceous) granitic intrusions and Triassic carbonate sequences. Massive andradite-grossular garnet skarn ore hosts disseminated chalcopyrite, bornite, and minor molybdenite, plus iron oxides (magnetite, hematite) in adjacent zones. Reserves exceed 600,000 tonnes contained Cu.
