About this specimen
Yunnan veszelyite at 1.7 cm; a thumbnail, supplied in the display box shown. Veszelyite in strong blue spreads across the face of a pale rock in irregular patches, following the hollows and leaving the raised ridges bare.
Veszelyite is a rare hydrated copper-zinc phosphate that forms deep blue to blue-green crystals; the Laochang district of Yunnan is the best-known modern source.
Yunnan is China's most mineralogically diverse province, source of the pyromorphite, azurite and blue aragonite that have become collector favourites.
Dimensions place it in the thumbnail range, 1.7 × 1.5 × 1.1 cm (0.67 × 0.59 × 0.43 in). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
