About this specimen
Yunnan veszelyite at 1.7 cm; a thumbnail, supplied in the display box shown. Veszelyite crystals in deep blue crust the upper half of an upright block, their tiny faces catching enough light to give the whole crust a glassy shimmer.
Veszelyite is a rare hydrated copper-zinc phosphate that forms deep blue to blue-green crystals; the Laochang district of Yunnan is the best-known modern source.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
By size it is thumbnail, 1.7 × 1.6 × 0.8 cm (0.67 × 0.63 × 0.31 in). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
