About this specimen

Pakistani aquamarine with mica at 2.6 cm and 16 g; a miniature gem crystal. A glassy pale blue aquamarine crystal with a mica rosette grown half inside its base, as the supplier points out.

Aquamarine is the blue-green variety of beryl, forming hexagonal prisms with flat terminations; the Chinese material from Xuebaoding and Yunnan pairs it with muscovite and cassiterite.

Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.

Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan pegmatites produce aquamarine, topaz, fluorite, quartz and garnet of international quality.

Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 1.6 × 1.9 × 2.6 cm (0.63 × 0.75 × 1.02 in) and 16 g (0.6 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.

Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
