About this specimen

Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine with mica at 15 cm and over 500 g per the supplier; a large cabinet plate.

Aquamarine is the blue-green variety of beryl, forming hexagonal prisms with flat terminations; the Chinese material from Xuebaoding and Yunnan pairs it with muscovite and cassiterite.

Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.

Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.

By size it is large cabinet, 10 × 3.4 × 15 cm (3.94 × 1.34 × 5.91 in) and 500 g (17.6 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Every specimen here is photographed and catalogued individually before listing.
