About this specimen

Light runs down this crystal in fine parallel threads — dozens of prism-face grooves that turn a black mineral into something much closer to brushed steel. The prism is stout rather than slender, and it closes at the top in a low, slightly off-centre termination instead of a broken stump. Where a thin edge lets light through, the black opens briefly into a warm root-beer brown.

Schorl is the iron-rich end of the tourmaline series: trigonal, Mohs 7–7.5, hard enough to handle without anxiety. Those lengthwise striations are the family signature — the prism faces grow as narrow alternating strips rather than one flat plane, which is why no two sides flash at the same moment as you turn it. Tourmaline is also genuinely pyroelectric: heat a crystal and opposite electrical charges gather at its two ends.

The crystal measures 4.6 × 2.8 × 2.8 cm and weighs 65 g, and it is shown standing on museum putty above a clear acrylic block. The photographs are of this crystal and no other.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
