About this specimen
Blue needle quartz, often called angel feather quartz, gets its name from inclusions exactly like these: thin, platy blue needles fanning out in sheets, with drifts of white flakes caught between them like falling snow. In this sphere the blue is strong and easy to see, gathering in deep, ink-blue zones in the centre, while white snowflake clusters scatter across the upper half.
The surrounding crystal is transparent and polished, so the inclusions read in three dimensions as you turn it, and a torch from behind adds fine rainbow arcs along one edge. At 6.2 cm / 2.4 in it is a lovely, collectable size for a cabinet or desk.
