About this specimen
Dimensions: 5.6 × 5.6 × 5.6 cm (2.20 × 2.20 × 2.20 in); longest edge 56 mm (2.20 in).
The blue in this sphere is intense. Dense needles crowd the clear quartz in long sprays with side-branches, so each bundle looks like a fern frond or a feather, and several of them overlap into a deep blue thicket on one side.
Between the fronds are small snowy white patches and a few long single needles that cross at an angle. On the far side a single fan opens like a peacock tail. The quartz is clear and transparent, the sphere and well polished. Backlit with a torch, as in our photos, it is one of the bluest needle spheres we have offered.
