About this specimen

Hold this small polished sphere up to the sun and a sharp six-ray star appears, its rays reaching right to the edge, with several fainter star effects threading between them. The effect comes from abundant fine, tiny rutile needles aligned inside the icy, translucent milky quartz.
Out of direct light the sphere has a soft, silky white sheen, and against a dark background the fine needles show as a delicate texture. The quartz is clean throughout. Small enough to keep in a pocket or on a desk, it is a delightful piece to bring out on a sunny day.
