About this specimen
Dimensions: 5.2 × 5.2 × 5.2 cm (2.05 × 2.05 × 2.05 in); longest edge 52 mm (2.05 in).
A dark, finely branched "tree" grows through the middle of this small clear quartz sphere. Its limbs fork upward from a single trunk, edged with tiny feathery side shoots, so it looks like a winter tree or a pressed fern caught in glass. It is an unusual inclusion and a striking one at this size.
Around the tree, fine pinkish wisps and soft white veils float in otherwise clear quartz, and one side shows a small peach-coloured patch. The sphere is polished. It is small enough to hold between thumb and fingers, which is the best way to study the branches up close.
