About this specimen
Dark epidote crystals form prominent blocky columns against pale prehnite-bearing material. Fine parallel ridges run down several of the darker faces, while smaller angular crystals sit close to the main group. The side view reveals a broad dark face and the uneven boundary with the pale growth around it. A low, elongated supporting matrix keeps the taller epidote near the center, creating a strong contrast between the almost black upper crystals and the softer light-colored surrounding areas. Dimensions: 5.5 × 3 × 3.5 cm / 55 × 30 × 35 mm / 2.17 × 1.18 × 1.38 inch. Estimated weight: 47 g / 1.66 oz, calculated from its dimensions.
