About this specimen

A scatter of wine-red garnets across broken cream feldspar — that is the whole composition, and it works. Few of the garnets are larger than a grain of rice, yet every one is a sharp dodecahedron with glassy faces, the biggest darkening almost to black at the centre. Between them stand blocky feldspar crystals and several smoky quartz points, one clear enough to see the matrix straight through.

Garnet is a group rather than a single mineral, several species sharing one structure while swapping the metals inside it, which is why garnet colour ranges from this deep wine through orange to green. The company it keeps here is typical of a granitic pocket: feldspar, quartz, and a garnet that outlasts both. At 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale it is the hardest thing on the piece, and the whole specimen is robust enough to handle freely.

5.1 × 3.8 × 2.5 cm, 55 g, seated on putty on the clear acrylic display block seen in the images. Photographed exactly as it will arrive — this specimen, on this base.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Garnet natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
