About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, quartz at 6.5 cm and 237 g; a small cabinet piece. A stout quartz crystal with a golden tint and a sculpted, stepped form; the supplier notes a normal mining-contact base.
Good quartz is about hexagonal prisms with clean terminations and the glassy lustre that lets a cluster catch light from every angle.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
