About this specimen
Sichuan blue-green acicular aragonite at 12 cm and 320 g; a large cabinet piece. A rounded mound of mint-green aragonite in fine radiating needles that build into soft rounded lobes, the colour even and the surface velvety.
Aragonite is chemically the same as calcite but crystallises differently, which is why it builds sprays and columns instead of blocky rhombs.
Sichuan hosts Xuebaoding, Jinkouhe and Leshan, sources of aquamarine, scheelite, prehnite, gypsum and the epidote-quartz skarn specimens seen here.
The piece is large cabinet in size, 12 × 7 × 4.8 cm (4.72 × 2.76 × 1.89 in) and 320 g (11.3 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
