About this specimen

White the whole way through, and lobed like a head of cauliflower: this Dali piece is a tight mound of hydrozincite rosettes, each swelling finished in a granular crust so fine-grained it might be frost rather than crystal. Light crossing it answers with a soft, diffuse sparkle instead of a mirror flash, and in the valleys between the lobes sit larger glassy grains, faintly blue where light passes right through.

Hydrozincite, Zn5(CO3)2(OH)6, is a secondary zinc carbonate, forming where circulating water attacks primary zinc ore near the surface — which is why it arrives in soft crusts rather than free crystals. It is a dependable ultraviolet mineral, commonly answering short-wave light with a pale blue glow. The label offers celestine as a possible associate; unconfirmed, we flag it rather than claim it. At Mohs 2 to 2.5 it is soft: a dry brush only, no acids.

The mound is 5.5 × 5.0 × 3.0 cm and 55 g, photographed in the hand without a base. The piece you see here is the piece that ships.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Hydrozincite natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
