About this specimen
An upright, double-terminated calcite crystal stained rust-orange rises from a bed of white gypsum, and the gypsum wraps around its middle like a sleeve so the tips show through in red. The colour contrast is strong and the crystal stands freely.
Gypsum enclosing yellow calcite is a Guizhou specialty; the gypsum here is fine-grained and bright white, which makes the coloured calcite pop. Keep dry: gypsum should never be washed.
It measures 6.6 × 4.7 × 2.4 cm (2.60 × 1.85 × 0.94 in) and weighs 27 g (0.9 oz), a small cabinet-sized piece that displays well on a shelf or in a cabinet. What you see in the photos is the piece you receive; any known repair, mount or treatment is disclosed above.
