About this specimen

Moroccan baryte-vanadinite-aragonite at 80 g; a small cabinet piece. Lead vanadate present: wash hands after handling.

Baryte is a collector staple from Chinese lead-zinc and fluorite deposits, where it forms crisp tabular crystals alongside fluorite and calcite.

Flat hexagonal crystals and a rich red-brown colour are what Morocco is famous for in vanadinite; wash hands after handling. Aragonite is chemically the same as calcite but crystallises differently, which is why it builds sprays and columns instead of blocky rhombs.

Moroccan vanadinite from the Mibladen district is the world standard for the species, prized for red colour and sharp hexagonal form.

By size it is small cabinet, 6.1 × 5.7 × 3.7 cm (2.40 × 2.24 × 1.46 in) and 80 g (2.8 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.

Contains lead-bearing minerals: wash hands after handling and keep away from children and pets. Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.

Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
