About this specimen
Dozens of small, wine-red garnet crystals are scattered across a white feldspar matrix, with a larger dark garnet at the top and clear, glassy hyalite opal crusts between them that fluoresce green under UV. Grey and cream feldspar makes up the base.
Yunxiao's pegmatite pockets in Fujian produce garnet with hyalite in quantity; this is a cabinet-size example with the hyalite intact, and the photos show it under a 365 nm UV lamp.
