About this specimen
One ammonite, opened like a book: this matched pair of cut and polished halves from Mahajanga, Madagascar, turns a Cretaceous shell into a pair of mirror-image displays. Every chamber the animal built is now its own miniature geode — some lined with honey-gold calcite crystals, some floored with rust-red sediment — wrapped in agatized walls that polish to caramel and cream.
The spiral’s inner whorls stay crisp at the centre of each half, so the pair reads both as natural history — a 100-million-year-old mollusk’s architecture in cross-section — and as a ready-made matched set for a shelf or desk.
The set measures about 11.9 × 3.6 × 13.7 cm combined and weighs 471 g. Both halves ship together; the photographs show the exact pair.
About Madagascar
Madagascar is one of the world's great gem and specimen islands, known to collectors for celestine, fluorite, quartz and fossil ammonites as well as pegmatite gems.
