여기서는 엔젤피시 두 마리가 앞뒤로 줄지어 래브라도라이트 한 덩어리에서 헤엄쳐 나옵니다. 몸통은 겹치는 면으로 깎였고 지느러미에는 가는 평행 홈이 새겨져 있습니다. 빛을 향해 돌리면 넓은 판 같은 전기빛 푸른색이 맨 앞 몸통을 가득 채우고, 그 아래쪽에서 두 번째 공작 눈 같은 섬광이 나타납니다. 나머지는 모두 검은 줄이 배어든 스모키한 올리브 회색으로 보입니다. 조각가는 바깥 테두리를 거칠게 남겨 두어, 연마된 물고기가 원석 장석에서 튀어나오는 듯 보입니다.
그 푸른색은 안료가 아닙니다. 래브라도라이트는 사장석 계열의 장석으로, 식으면서 내부가 극히 얇은 층이 번갈아 겹친 구조로 분리되었습니다. 돌 안으로 들어간 빛은 그 층들에서 반사되어 서로 간섭하고, 좁은 대역의 색 하나만 되돌려 보냅니다. 그래서 보는 사람이 움직이면 색이 옮겨 다니다 사라집니다. 모스 경도 6~6.5로 광택은 밝게 나지만 벽개 방향의 충격에는 약합니다.
조각은 10.2 × 8.9 × 3.0 cm, 무게 350 g이며 바닥을 평평하게 깎아 별도의 받침 없이 세울 수 있습니다. 이 사진들은 이 한 점을 찍은 것으로, 섬광 무늬는 이 작품만의 것입니다.
