About this specimen
Discover the mesmerizing beauty of Purple Flos Ferri Aragonite. This stunning crystal formation from Austria radiates a unique green phosphorescence, making it a captivating addition to any collection. Perfect for mineral enthusiasts and collectors seeking rare and extraordinary specimens.
Aragonite, with the chemical formula CaCO3, crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and exhibits a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale. Known for its vitreous to resinous luster, this specimen’s delicate coralloidal habit—commonly referred to as ‘flos ferri’ or ‘iron flowers’—reveals an intricate, branching structure that is both elegant and distinctive. The subtle purple hue enhances its visual appeal, while the translucent nature of the crystals allows light to interact with the specimen, highlighting its complex form.
This particular piece originates from a notable Austrian locality renowned for producing fine aragonite specimens, contributing to its geological and collector value. The unique green phosphorescence exhibited under certain lighting conditions adds an uncommon feature that sets it apart from typical aragonite samples. Its rarity, combined with the quality of crystal formation, makes it a valuable addition for serious collectors and display purposes.
When handling this specimen, it is advisable to keep it away from prolonged exposure to moisture and acidic environments to preserve its luster and structural integrity. Displaying it in a stable, dust-free environment will help maintain its natural beauty over time.
