About Changning Fluorite Field
The Changning Fluorite Field in Hunan Province produces purple, blue, and green fluorite specimens from low-temperature hydrothermal vein deposits in Carboniferous-Permian carbonate sequences. Active since the 1970s, Changning is part of the Nanling fluorite metallogenic belt that includes the world-famous Yaogangxian and Shangbao fluorite mines.
Geology & Signature Specimens
Fluorite mineralization is hosted in Late Yanshanian fault-controlled veins cutting Carboniferous limestone host rocks. Crystals form in vugs and cavities reaching 10+ cm, with characteristic color zoning (purple cores, green rims) from differential REE incorporation. The mine produces abundant green and purple cubic fluorite specimens for international collectors.
