About Fankou Pb-Zn Mine
The Fankou Pb-Zn Mine in Renhua County, Guangdong, is one of China’s largest carbonate-hosted lead-zinc deposits. Active since the 1960s, Fankou supplies major Pb-Zn-Ag-Ge production from sedimentary-exhalative-modified-by-MVT-style ores. Collector specimens favor sharp galena cubes, gemmy red sphalerite, and rare germanium-bearing accessory species.
Geology & Signature Specimens
Mineralization is hosted in Devonian carbonate sequences along NE-trending faults. The deposit hosts both stratabound replacement and vein-style ores, with galena as primary Pb sulfide accompanied by sphalerite, pyrite, fluorite, and minor calcite-dolomite gangue. Reserves exceed 14 million tonnes contained Pb-Zn — the largest single carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn deposit in southern China.
